Menopause And Yeast Infections

Tips And Advice

Menopause and yeast infections appear to be synonymous. Along with the hot flashes, mood changes and other problems associated with menopause, vaginal dryness is yet another symptom women have to contend with. Let’s explore how vaginal dryness can increase the risk of yeast infection.

The medical term for any infection of the vaginal tract is called vaginitis. The symptoms are very similar to yeast infections in that they include: itching, burning or painful during urination and/or sexual intercourse. One of the most common conditions associated with vaginitis is a yeast infection.

As debilitating as yeast infections can be, it is important to use preventative methods to ensure you do not become a candidate for this condition, especially during menopause. One of the contributory factors is having sex with multiple partners. In addition, the use of foams or jellies or other birth control items can cause infections as well. Try to limit your use of sprays or products that are not natural. Soap and water is the best method to wash your vaginal area.

Due to the fact that bacteria is the catalyst which aids in removing fungus from the genital area, it is important to avoid consistent use of antibiotic medications since they tend to kill the healthy bacteria which is needed. Wear cotton instead of nylon. Nylon does not allow for air circulation, but keeps the moisture in. It is also recommended to use proper hygiene practices when wiping your genital area. Always wipe from front to back, thus decreasing the changes of spreading bacteria from back to front.

Other ways in which you can assist in the dissipation of a yeast infection is to avoid intercourse for a time; take cold baths to relieve the itching; never douche, as you would be washing away the necessary bacteria needed to fight the fungus; and if necessary, use a vaginal cream. More importantly, however, seek advice from your doctor to determine the extent to which the yeast infection can be treated.

While we all experience menopause and its affects; yeast infections can be avoided if using proper hygiene habits. Whether using home remedies or conventional medications, at some point you may have to receive medical intervention of the condition does not go away or if it becomes chronic. Although many espouse the use of oils, creams, and other products; it is up to you to research this condition and find an effective method to treat it whether or not you seek medical advice.

You may also wish to research many of the holistic treatments available. For thousands of years, the use of holistic care in treating certain conditions was widely accepted. Perhaps you will discover it is a good alternative to this irritating and often nasty condition.

Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment Review

Bacterial Vaginosis is an inflammation that usually occurs in the vagina and includes germs that cause yeast infections and trichomoniasis. Although bacterial vaginosis treatment is always available, yet women often tend to leave it uncared. This is dangerous as lack of treatment enhances a woman’s risk of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), cervicitis, pregnancy complications, endometritis and post-operative infections among other health conditions.

Bacterial Vaginosis – Who requires Treatment?

Bacterial Vaginosis treatment is not necessary when the bacteria are present in the vagina. But treatment is required in the following cases:

  • When the woman has symptoms or the physician discovers signs of bacterial vaginosis
  • When the women is about to undergo a medical procedure which might lead to further intake of bacteria into the uterus
  • When the woman is pregnant

Bacterial Vaginosis – Oral and Vaginal Medication

Oral or vaginal Metronidazole for continuous period of 7-days is the first choice of oral medication for treating bacterial vaginosis. These antibiotic medicines can be applied in the vaginal area as vaginal cream and gel or taken as a pill. Oral medicines are used to treat pregnant women who bear high-risk for pre-term labor. Metronidazole, Tinidazole, and Clindamycin are antibiotics that destroy bacteria responsible for bacterial vaginosis. All of these three antibiotics offer average cure rates of 80% to 90%. The vaginal medications are less likely to cause nausea and vomiting, unlike oral medication.

For bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends application of clindamycin cream 2% for a period of seven days and 4 weeks of vaginal Metronidazole gel treatment. Metronidazole id thought to be the safest to use during pregnancy.

Other Stunning Treatments – Other than Metronidazole

The following set of medicines is not as effective as Metronidazole, but they certainly have fewer side effects:

  • Tinidazole – these tablets can be taken as a single dose. The side effects are as few and elementary as Metronidazole
  • Miconazole – Also known as Monistat, these are effective to reduce vaginal thrush and also bacterial vaginitis. You can get this without producing any prescription. Insert one pessary each night for 7 nights
  • Aci-jel – a vaginal cream that is effective in altering the acidity of vagina, thereby reducing the multiple growths of bacterial vaginosis organisms. This cream is also available from pharmacies without a prescription.

Bacterial Vaginosis What is it?

Bacterial Vaginosis Intolerable Crisis

There is nothing comparable to a genital infection rising to level of intolerable crisis. For our feminine sisters to be precise, the pain, torture, embarrassment, name them all, can literally make one run to the hills for fear of being the possible heir of bacterial vaginosis in particular.

Typically a woman contracts the offending bacteria from the mere upheaval exiting meek bacteria at her vaginal parts. When this happens, a new breed of "hardhearted" bacteria colonizes the few left "harmless" ones causing bacterial vaginosis. As the ruthless "suckers" divides the vaginal empire amongst their increasing generation, the bacteria vaginosis symptoms starts to show up rendering a woman’s sanity nutty! At this point the most notable change will be on her vaginal discharge that becomes of smelly yet sickening concoction.

The bacterial vaginosis infection can remain silent only for her enthusiastic husband to instantly loose his erection, when he attempts to penetrate her and then what"s this? A gush of disgusting vaginal discharge interrupts the steamy affair! Go on ask him for comments and he will most assuredly tell you that his woman"s "romantic goody" is the least of his attention then! Is this not a horrible bacterial vaginosis crisis? Well the doctor has the safe custody of the answer.

Bacterial vaginosis at this point has reached its climax when the crisis does not just begin but increases dramatically. The victim at this point will face the reality of soreness, painful urination, and vaginal irritation and at the worst the grave vaginal itching. With the onset of vaginal itching, the suffering sister must fall in love with her long nails for refuge. She could make them scrape off some of the "loose sucking" bacteria at least for a quick alleviation. This kind of a habit could make one misbehave unconsciously in public, thus earning a lofty title linked with the possibility of being infested with pubic lice at your pubic parts!

What is more with the bacterial vaginosis is the fact that a victim can move from a doctor to doctor with each one demanding a high price for their shoddy jobs that deliver no results to the sufferer. This then makes their lives more difficult since this now might translate to a financial crisis causing a stressing condition to the victim as they struggle to have their healthy vaginal back to normal.

There should always be hope or a solution in everything that happens to us human beings. The women who have become the susceptible captives of this bacterial vaginosis must take caution to seek their one and only perfect gynecological advice. The gynecologist is at a position to examine her vaginal condition and discern the bacterial vaginosis from possible yeast infections, then proceed to prescribe the best antibiotic possible to cure the infection and caution about the do’s and don’ts especially to prevent the disorder from retreating.

For the abrasions causing vaginal burning resulting from severe bacterial vaginosis could be, one could try a home remedy such as garlic juice to smear some at the sores. Garlic is praised for its strong anti-fungal and antiseptic effects. The victims could also plain yogurt because it has been known to clear up the itching, pain or burning inside and outside the vagina. For internal vagina, the woman can make some yogurt tampons and insert them inside, or better still sprinkle some using a needless syringe.
